  Birds

Fans of Lanzarote might wonder whether watching too much Attenborough has got to my head. But I just loved this front-page photo from today's Indy. It appeared to me that the lovely fellow in the picture was having a good old chuckle at the expense of the other headline stories (GWU betrayed its mission - PM, Ploy to silence GWU and A double-blow - Alfred Sant) while it sat in its tiled cage contemplating its hosts' penchant for German cars.

Today's bird should also be interpreted as a nod of recognition in the direction of Pierre's piece about our nocturnal adventures.

In the meantime, it is with pleasure that we note that Terry Pratchett geek, J.R. Zammit, has been to London and back and regales us with some typically I.M. Beckian (as opposed to houellebecqian) observations (burp!).

Comments:
Isma, totally unrelated to this post but it's been niggling me for a while ... and how else can I say this... Your blogroll... you describe us as immigrants... if you're looking at the migration from Malta, then we're emigrants... or are you trying to give some subtle nod at a POV which lies elsewhere (u jien mhux qed nifhem, is-soltu, ghax naqra slow!)... I could overanalyse this but I'll spare you... *grin* Aqtaghli l-kurzita biss please.

I don't know what a POV is. A German Prisoner of War?

It depends how you look at it Sharon - from the Brit, Belgian and Luxemburgish point of view we're immigrants, no? That's what I meant.

(Although our eu citizenship did change the ball game in a big way - but that's another story I suppose)

Cheers!

He he, just realised those might not be tiles after all. Or are they?

POV is point of view... *grin* you can't have done lit crit! issa bhalek why would you look at it from the Brit, Brx, Lux POV?

Madoff... you DO realise you're talking about my pet subject hux? Insomma one of them ghax with all this multidisciplinarity xbajt nirfes ghadab (would that be the plural of ghadba?) ta' haddiehor... anyway how did EU citizenship change things according to you? Do go on... :)

Sharon, int "ghatba" trid tghid, le? (plural "ghetiebi")

David - dejjem nidhak wahda tajba meta nzur il-blogg tieghek. Grazzi :-)

Sharon - EU citizenship? Don't get me going about that one. I did a lot of work on that for my thesis. But there are several really interesting articles/books about identity in an EU context which you might want to dip into. Here's one off the cuff: http://www.europeanlawbooks.org/reviews/detail.asp?id=13

ps: your mix of EN and MT requires serious linguistic analysis too!

Twanny - grazzi xbin.

aha so now you have to tell me what your thesis was about... and what it was for... law?

btw i know how to look up books *grin* i wanted YOUR take on it in the context of this POV business... if you can't be concise, write me an email

Antoine, ma tghallimt xejn l-iskola jien!

David, linguistic analysis would be fab, I love doing it, to myself and to other people... I think in my case all the code-switching may simply flash up as utter laziness...

But in any case code switching is a fact of life in Malta, the sooner we admit it, the sooner we can make something of it, rather than hold forth about the purity of language... (utter bosh!) and try to lecture others on how it should be spoken/written/expressed... all this linguistic superiority, such rot...
